    Young Designer 2012

The 50-meter REACH explorer yacht concept is based on the look of a conventional trawler, but with a superstructure at its stern and spacious foredecks. Our objective was to add an innovative and striking exterior style to these seagoing working vessels. The design is dominated by masculine lines and sharp edges. Strong overhanging shoulders form the basis of the angular superstructure, conveying a sense of strength and endurance. The yacht’s dynamic stern hints at a keenness to keep going in order to get to the farthest-flung and most beautiful places in the world. One of the most important design criteria was having a sense of the surroundings. This involved creating spacious weather decks that give you the room to breathe and move around. Sunny and shaded areas were created in equal measure. The owners and their guests can therefore relax by the spa pool on the foredeck or alternatively by the whirlpool bar on the sun deck. The glass deck rail and the crow’s nest give you a clear view at all times. Life on board revolves around the main deck, which is the exclusive realm of the owners and their guests. The dining room is framed by large sliding glass doors which bring the interior and exterior together in a unique way when they are open. A spacious lounge has been incorporated at the stern and can be turned into a cinema with just a few manual adjustments. There is a private deck for the owners. The guest cabins feature large windows and offer direct access to the beach club and spa area. The glass floor of the pool bathes the beach club in wonderfully atmospheric light reflections. The layout makes it possible for the ten-man crew to attend to all of their duties out of the way of the owners and their guests. Two tenders, diving equipment and various water toys are stored by the crew in the boat garage at the stern. The impressive interior is designed in a purist and elegant style. This ambience is created by a selection of lightly colored, quality materials that represent the pure and harmonious overall feeling. Carefully selected Zebrano woods and white reflective surfaces underline the straightforward look. Mirror-like ceiling elements, chrome and crystal create an incomparable sense of space.
